After 10 years of working remotely as a digital nomad and living in different countries, I have learned a lot about nomadic living.
Over the course of my travels, I have stayed in countries like Mexico, Thailand and Nicaragua.
While working remotely from my laptop, I have also been to over 50 countries.
Actually, I am actually writing this article on a Greek island that overlooks the sea.
This is my son fact-checking me!
You can travel the world as a digital nomad and learn from other cultures. You can also work whenever you want — true freedom.
The reality of a global recession is becoming more real, remote work and location independence are increasingly in demand. Recently, I have been receiving questions about latest digital nomads and remote work guides
I thought it was time to create a guide that shares some of my top tips and advice with others who are interested in trying it.
What is a Digital Nomad?
Digital nomads can be remote workers who travel frequently to other locations using modern technology. They can work in coffee shops, hotels or co-working spaces or libraries from anywhere with a WiFi connected smartphone or laptop.
There are many different types of digital nomads. Many people travel in their country by RV or campervan. Others live on sailboats and work from various ports.
Some people choose to stay in hostels, or rent apartments on Airbnb while traveling from one country to the next.
The general idea is to have complete freedom while working online.
The Benefits
Digital nomads have many advantages, including the ability to travel wherever they want. It’s hard to imagine anyone not wanting to be able check off their bucket list from anywhere on the planet while working remotely with a laptop.
- Living in an area with low costs of living can help you save money
- Flexibility to live wherever you like
- Get rid of the toxic atmosphere created by office politics
- Explore new cultures and make new friends
- Learn new skills and languages
- Travel experiences can broaden your mind.
- You can set your own schedule and make time for yourself when you need it.
- Winters at the beach and summers up in the mountains
The Downsides
Many people dream of working from anywhere. There are pros and cons to living a nomadic life. These are some of the down sides:
- It is exhausting to move constantly
- Productivity can be affected
- Digital nomads are often lonely
- It is not easy to find stability
- A general lack in private space
- Travel has lost its wow factor and luster.
These downsides eventually caught up to me after 10 years of traveling the globe. I returned to the USA with my wife, kid, and purchased a house.
However, that doesn’t mean I didn’t love my nomadic lifestyle for all those years.
Living out of bags for so many years eventually became boring for me. I was ready to have a family, settle down, do -from-home , and travel more.
I have been there, so I am happy to share my experience with others who are just starting out with digital nomad living!
